REVEALED: Real Reasons Why African Women Wear Waist Beads

Beads are usually small round pieces of pierced glass, wood or metal strung together to serve as adornment for the waist, neck or ankle beads.

Waist Beads are common with females and they are an excellent tool for women to feel more feminine and beautiful. These beautiful gemstone waist beads are hand made and customized. The tradition of wearing beads is an age long one, from time immemorial; it has been worn for varying reasons by the royalty, for body adornment, deification and decoration.

The wearing of beads on the waist was made popular by the Yorubas in Nigeria. Overtime the culture of the use of beads has been associated with both spiritual and material reasons. In some parts of Africa, the beads are anointed in oils and the woman stands over a smoked pot and commences to ‘smoke her self’.

This practice aids in sensory pleasure for the man. Some beads are adorned with bells, which is a signal to let the man know that the woman wants to engage in se.xual intercourse. The Yorubas have a revered usage attached to the waist beads. It is also worn as a form of birth control, as a way of preventing obesity or also for their ‘healing’ and thera.peutic powers.

They refer to the waist bead as ILEKE or LAGIDIGBA is made of palm nut shells string together, while the ‘bebe’ which is also worn around the waist is made of glass.

The Yorubas have a belief that the waist beads possess some erotic appeal and have the power to incite desire or deep emotional response on men. Waist Beads in Yoruba are also used for birth control, the beads are laced with charms and worn by the women to prevent conception and were also around the waist of baby girls to perfectly shape her buttocks.

Gone are the days when beads have been thought to be worn by ‘UNSOPHISTICATED’, forward or slutty women alone, also different stories abound on the usage of waist beads by ladies and some men who believe they are infused or laced with charms or Juju or Juju will never touch a woman wearing beads with a 10 foot pole for the fear of falling under the supposed spell of such women.

For a while, waist beads almost went into extinction but now the re emergence of beads has added a new dimension into the craze among Nigerian Ladies. While some men ablor it, some request their partners get them as it makes them more sensual and attractive

Muvhango’s Sindi Dlathu who plays Thandaza COLLAPSES at work AGAIN!

IT will worry fans of the SABC soapie that actress Sindi Dlathu, who plays the much-loved role of Thandaza, has once again been booked off sick from the show after she collapsed at work due to exhaustion.
Just last July publicist Amanda Ngudle reported that Thandaza had fainted while at work and was immediately rushed to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, where she was treated for severe fatigue.

When we recently contacted Sindi to interview her about her simmering storyline, where she is suspected of foul play when it comes to the disappearance of Imani, her cousin who had an affair with her husband Ranthumeng, we were shocked when the soapie’s publicist disclosed that Sindi is once again on sick leave due to exhaustion. A doctor has advised her to stay away from set for a while and refrain from answering any work-related calls.

Unfortunately nobody is fit for her role, as she happens to be one of the cast members who have never been replaced since she joined the soapie in 1997.

She started her television career at the age of 14, and has worked alongside industry heavyweights like Whoopi Goldberg in Sarafina.

During the early stages of her career, she honed her art in stage plays, giving her a firm footing upon which to launch her television career.

As a teenager, she starred on TV series such as Khululeka and Soul City on SABC 2 in 1994.

Being a naturally modest and down to earth person, she has managed to keep her private life private. Throughout the years, the soft-spoken Sindi has managed to stay out of the tabloids.

She has even been able to keep the identity of her long time husband a mystery. All tht is knows is that he is not in showbiz, and she has been married to him for 19 years.

As for the number of children, she has, that too seems to be a mystery.
More often than not, she is a no-show at entertainment events. The only ones she attends are those linked to promotions for Muvhangor or SABC. Indeed many in the industry have speculated that her private persona is the reason for her staying power on television.

On Muvhango, whenever she is off sick, her character Thandaza disappears from the storyline and everything is put on hold. It seems obvious that the actress is a firm favourite with the soapie’s founding producer, Duma a Ndlovhu

Over the years, Thandaza’s character has evolved into a powerful and independent businesswoman who is able to juggle her career with being a wife and a mother.

However with so much bad luck and misfortune going on in the Mokoena household, her character has recently been th most talked about. Lately she continues to do what she does best, keeping Muvhango viewers on the edge of their seats.

But it seems Thandaza has lost her focus due to arguments with her onscreen husband, Ranthumeng. A case in point is the rage she showed when she stabbed her husband with a pair of scissor for impregnating her long-lost cousin, Imani.

The energy the actress has used in her onscreen fights with her husband Ranthumeng due to their heated arguments about being betrayed by him and their sudden divorce-all could have added to her exhaustion on and off-screen.

According to prominent artist Manager, Ayanda Malinga, the entertainment industry can indeed be exhausting.

Since South African aritsts work on a freelance basis, being off-sick can set them back financially. Being absent can mean less money for you,” explains Ayanda.

There is a lot of competition. It can be hard to resist the urge not to rest even if you are fatigued”

But even with the health scares, Thandaza is going nowhere. She was recently quoted as saying, ” i am having fun with Muvhango, so my focus is on the production. It hs become m second home. I share the joys nd highs and lows of my life with this soapie.”

Though eyes often roll when celebrities vanish to be treated for exhaustion, Dr Ngawethu Masiza says it it a valid medical condition.

“Prolonged periods of physical stress and sleep deprivation can cause problems that should not be ignored, though many people may not want to admit it,” he says.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he'll buy new players yet again ahead of next season

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has admitted that he will be dipping his hand into the transfer market yet again, noting that there is always a need to strengthen as is the trend worldwide.

With his second league title won in the three-and-a-half years at Chloorkop, Mosimane has already started planning for next season – and key to that is the recruitment of new players.

An important addition will be a player the gap left by Bongani Zungu who is leaving for Portugal while should Khama Billiat also move abroad as is expected, then there will definitely be a need for another equally exciting talent in his position.

“I have never heard of one coach in the world who says I have got a perfect team and I am not strengthening,” reasons Mosimane.

“I look at Luis Enrique [of Barcelona] - out of the [UEFA] Champions League. Does he say his team is perfect? Otherwise he would have been in the final. I am talking about Messi, Neymar and Suarez.

“When I look at Barca every year they bring a minimum of two players. Now, they have brought Arda (Turan) from Atletico Madrid, they brought (Ivan) Rakitic to strengthen the midfield since Iniesta and Xavi are old … they needed to strengthen the team.

“I look at Bayern (Munich), a big team, they have already signed players,” he continued. “The defender (Mats Hummels) from (Borussia) Dortmund is going to them - every year they are taking from Dortmund, every time, they strengthen their team.

“So who am I not to strengthen the team? If you don’t strengthen the team then you should be able to win Champions League easily, but we have not arrived there though we are improving in the Champions League. Sundowns is a team that has ambitions and wants to play Champions League football and that is why I came here.

“[In my] first year we went to the Champions League which is very good and this year we went to Champions League, good. Next year we are going again.”

‘Jingles’ has a habit of bringing in new players in large numbers at the start of every season.

At the start of every of his first season in charge in 2013, the new arrivals were Glenn Verbauwhede, Rashid Sumaila, Sibusiso Kumalo, Katlego Mashego, Bryce Moon, Rodney Ramagalela, Raymond Monama, Tiyani Mabunda, Cuthbert Malajila, Bongani Zungu, Dove Wome, Kennedy Mweene, Emmanuel Mathias, Khama Billiat, Mukuka Mulenga and Therlo Moosa.

The next season Luyolo Nomandela, Bonginkosi Ntuli, Siyanda Zwane, Mario Booysen, Rheece Evans, Mame Niang, Lindokuhle Mbatha, Uzoenyi Ejike, Kudakwashe Mahachi came in while Mumuni Abubakar, Method Mwanjali, Themba Zwane, Nyasha Mushekwi, Therlo Moosa, Hichani Himoonde and Eleazar Rodgers returned from loan spells.

At the beginning of the current season the new men at Chloorkop were Leonardo Castro, Bangaly Soumahoro, Keagan Dolly, Fiston Abdul Razak, Mogakolodi Ngele with Khayelihle Shozi and Flavio Bento promoted, as Samuel Julies, Moon, Verbauwhede, Kumalo, Nomandela, Mulenga, Mabunda all returned from various loans.

Guaranteed to make signings, the question is: who will Mosimane be signing this year?

Lionel Messi reveals his disappointment at not joining his Argentine teammates at this year's Olympic Games ‪

Argentine skipper Lionel Messi has expressed his disappointment at having to sit out this year’s Olympic Games in Brazil. The Barcelona superstar would have been a shoe-in as one of the three over-aged players to represent the Argentines in Rio, yet with the games coinciding with this year’s special Copa America Centenario, national team coach Gerardo Martino

Messi, who has previously played at the Olympic Games, winning gold in 2008, said he is sad to be missing out on this year’s spectacle in Brazil.

"I would have liked to go because it was a spectacular experience for me to play in the [2008] Olympics, just as it was for the [2005] U20 World Cup," the forward told ESPN.

"Not just because we won, but for the experience I gained.

"It was a great experience to stay in the Olympic Village and meet other elite athletes from other sports and to be just another athlete among them; that was very spectacular even though we didn't spend a lot of time in the village.

"World Cup is great but Olympics are something special."

The Argentine talisman will now set his sights on going one better at the Copa America, having lost last year’s final to Chile.

"It is a new Copa, different,” he said. “Very nice in the United States and very different from what I have played before because of the people, the stadiums," Messi said.

"That will make it different and for us, a new chance."

The Albiceleste have been drawn in Group D of June’s 100-year commemorative tournament, where they will face defending champions Chile, Panama and Bolivia.
